Introduction To Outsourcing Terminology For Lawyers 2

Based on all the above authorities a lawyer can outsource work to a person or entity in a different country if:

1.    The person or entity is adequately trained and competent to perform the outsourced work.
2.    The lawyer adequately supervises the outsourced work.
3.    The lawyers discloses the nature and extent of the outsource relationship to the client including the fees the client must pay for the outsourced work and the fees the lawyer must pay to outsource work.
4.    The person or entity must follow the Rules of Professional Responsibility including keeping secret and confidential client information and avoiding conflicts of interests.

The above citations discuss in great detail the ethical obligations of attorneys outsourcing work to persons or entities situated in a different nation or territory. Accordingly, this article will not discussed these obligations. Instead, this article is an introduction to outsourcing terminology for lawyers.

This article is based on The Handbook of Global Outsourcing and Offshoring [Kindle Edition], Ilan Oshri (Author), Julia Kotlarsky (Author), Willcocks (Author). This book discusses general outsourcing terms.[1] This article and subsequent articles written by Jennifer Trinidad will apply these principals to lawyers.
In 2010 the market for information technology outsourcing (ITO) worldwide was reported as $270 billion and for business process outsourcing (BPO), $165 billion. Recent estimates predict that between 2011 and 2014, ITO growth will be 5 to 8 percent per annum and BPO growth will be 8 to 12 percent per annum.[2]
