WASHINGTON Part 33

5.                  What do we need to do to get TRO?

A Washington state restraining order is for use in family law issues and property issues. A restraining order is used to prevent the respondent from having any contact with the petitioner and any children stated in the restraining order. A restraining order prevents the respondent from visiting the petitioner's home, work, school and daycare. A restraining order is not used in domestic violence situations. A Domestic Violence Protection Order would be used for domestic violence situations. If you feel that you are being harassed or stalked by a non relative an Anti Harassment Order would be used rather than a restraining order. If you have any questions at filing a restraining order, contact your county clerk's office or family court office. If a restraining order is put in place by a judge, the respondent will be served notice by a sheriff. If the respondent breaks the law according to the rules set place in the restraining order, he will be held in contempt of court and arrested.               Have a question?
