COMMON LAW MARRIAGE
If you live with your boyfriend or girlfriend in Nebraska
but do not take out a marriage license or have a wedding, you are not married.
Not even if you live together for seven years or more. If, however, you move to
a state which does recognize a common law marriage as valid and then move back
to Nebraska, you may have a valid marriage in Nebraska. The requirements for
common law marriage are different from state to state. If you have a valid
common law marriage and then you split up, you need to get a divorce to end the
marriage.
