Health Insurance for Spouses. Your divorce decree does not
become final for 6 months for the purposes of health insurance coverage. Your
decree was entered on the date it was file-stamped by the district court
clerk. If you were covered on your
spouse’s health insurance, or you covered your spouse on your health insurance,
that coverage can continue for 6 months after your decree was filed with the
court. Also, you can ask the judge to
order your spouse to cover you on his/her health insurance, or your spouse can
ask the judge to order you to cover him/her on your health insurance, for 6
months after the decree is entered.
