JURISDICTION
Jurisdiction is the authority of the court to hear and
decide a case. For example, you or your spouse must reside in Nebraska for
twelve months in a row before filing for divorce. If neither you nor your
spouse were residents of Nebraska for twelve months before filing for divorce,
a court in Nebraska cannot hear your divorce case as it has no jurisdiction to
do so.
