NEVADA Part 19
There is no set age for a child to give his or
her preference. Generally, children over
the age of 12 have more say and can better articulate the reasoning behind
their preference. Generally, a fourteen
year old’s decision to be with her mom will carry more weight than a child of
7. The court will not usually allow
children under the age of 7 to state a preference. Asking a child to state a preference puts a
great deal of pressure on them and is not generally advisable.
