Step 1:

Determine if you qualify for a Tennessee restraining order. There are three types of victims who qualify: domestic abuse, stalking and sexual assault victims. Those who stalk or sexually assault you need not have any family or household relationship with you. However, domestic violence only occurs if the abuser has one of the following family or household relationships with you: current or former cohabitant, any relative by blood or marriage (or adoption), any person with whom you have had a child, current or former spouse, or current or former dating or sex partner (includes same-sex partners).
