However, the order is really just a piece of paper that orders the abuser to stop and stay a certain distance from you (and stop trying to contact you). But it can be powerful if you enforce it aggressively. If the abuser violates a Tennessee protective order, inform the police without delay and have the abuser arrested. Press charges. This is the only way some people will hopefully learn to stop harassing you.
