What is shared parenting, and how does it work?
If parents are to share final decision-making authority and
there is a dispute, the method for resolution of that dispute must be spelled
out, and most likely the court will require the parents to mediate before going
to court. By splitting the designation of parenting or residential time from
decision-making authority and by eliminating the terms "custody" and
"visitation" from the new vocabulary, the parenting plan law hopes to
seriously reduce "custody wars" and encourage
"co-parenting."
