How long does the duty to pay child support last?
In general, the obligation continues until the child
reaches the age of 18 or is otherwise emancipated before reaching the age of 18
(because the child is married, is living on his/her own, and so on). However,
the obligation will continue beyond the age of 18 as long as the child
continuously attends a recognized and accredited high school on a full time
basis. A parent's duty to pay child support may continue beyond the age of 18
for a child with a physical or mental disability who is unable to support
him/herself.
