Is child support different in a paternity case?
Child support in a paternity case may be set
prospectively. In addition, it may be set retroactively for up to five years
before the paternity action is filed. A person legally determined to be the
father of a child also may have to pay some or all of the costs of the birth.
An action to establish paternity and support can be brought any time before the
child reaches the age of 18.
