Court Consideration Factors

The court is required to consider a child’s reasonable preference for custody, placing weight on the child’s age, experience, maturity, judgment and ability to express a preference.   In making a decision regarding custody of a minor child, the court must give weight to evidence of domestic violence. Final custody determinations are still governed by “the best interest of the child” standard:
